4 Things To Look At When Buying A Used Truck

Buying a new vehicle is exciting. You get the thrill of being able to pick the perfect vehicle to best accommodate your needs and wants. But with so many different options out there, it isn't always easy to pick the right vehicle. To help make sure you get a good quality used truck, here are a few things you need to do before making any final purchasing decisions.

Inspect the radiator fluid.

You want to take the radiator cap off and look at what color the fluid is. It should be a greenish color. In the event that it isn't, you might end up having problems with the engine. If you notice any murkiness to the fluid, that could be a sign that there is a problem with the radiator. If you want to really make sure whether the fluid is in good condition or not, they do make fluid testers that can help to simplify the process for you.

Check the condition of the engine and transmission.

Check the overall condition of the engine as well. If you notice a lot of grease and oil all over the place, it often means that the owner didn't do what they needed to for the engine. Engines that are properly maintained won't have a lot of grease all over them. The excess grease could be a sign that you are going to have to replace seals, gaskets and possibly intake manifolds. Inspect the transmission fluid and see if it smells burnt. If so, you need to walk away. Otherwise, you will be replacing the transmission before you know it.

Look for signs of trouble on the tires.

Go around and give the tires a once over. Look to see if there is any grease or brake fluid on them. If so, you might have a leak somewhere that will need to be taken care of. You also want to see how much tread is left on the tires to determine when you are going to have to replace them.

Be on the lookout for signs of rust.

Look at the roof of the vehicle for any raised spots. Raised spots on the roof often mean that there is rust beneath the surface that is going to have to be addressed in the near future. While it might be something that sanding and repainting can fix, it could also be something more severe that needs to be fixed as well. Have the vehicle inspected thoroughly before making any final decision on purchasing or not.

By stopping and looking at the things above, you can make sure you are getting a vehicle that is going to work for your needs.
